A Christmas Message from Dr. Macasieb and Wendy

Merry Christmas

At VIVaSol, we know that true health goes beyond physical wellness. It's about nurturing the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Yet in our always-on world, rest has become something we schedule between obligations rather than the foundation of our well-being.

This holiday season offers something rare: permission to pause.

When Did We Forget How to Rest?
Somewhere between the endless to-do lists and the glow of our screens, rest became synonymous with guilt. We've convinced ourselves that productivity equals worth, that busyness signals importance. But our bodies tell a different story. The tension in your shoulders, the exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, the fog that clouds your thinking—these are your body's pleas for true rest.

Rest isn't earned. It's essential for healing, clarity, and joy.

What Rest Really Looks Like
For Wendy, Christmas embodies this intentional pause: "It's about the time to sit back, connect with family and friends, listen to stories, color, work on a puzzle together—without having to rush off and answer a call or a text, or take care of something."

Notice what she doesn't mention: elaborate decorations, perfect gifts, or picture-worthy moments. Instead, she describes something beautifully ordinary—presence. The simple act of being fully there, without the mental tab of "what's next" running in the background.

This restful presence isn't just pleasant; it's therapeutic. Research shows that genuine social connection and present-moment awareness reduce cortisol, lower blood pressure, and strengthen immune function. When we slow down, our nervous system shifts from survival mode to restoration mode.

The Spiritual Dimension of Rest
Dr. Macasieb reflects on the deeper meaning woven into this season: "Christmas is a reset to acknowledge forgiveness, kindness, and love—and the miraculous birth of Christ."

This spiritual renewal isn't separate from physical health—it's foundational to it. When we connect with something larger than ourselves, whether through faith, nature, or community, we tap into a wellspring of resilience. Forgiveness releases the weight of resentment we carry in our bodies. Kindness triggers the release of oxytocin, the "bonding hormone" that promotes healing. Love reminds us we're not meant to carry our burdens alone.

Your Practical Guide to Restful Reconnection

Here are three practices to help you pause and reconnect this holiday season:

1. Create Sacred "Device-Free" Windows
Choose specific times—perhaps during meals or the hour before bed—when all devices go into a drawer (not just face-down on the table). This isn't about demonizing technology; it's about reclaiming your attention. Notice what happens when you're not checking notifications. Do conversations deepen?
Does your breathing slow? Does laughter come more easily?

2. Begin Each Day with Gratitude
Before reaching for your phone, spend three minutes identifying three specific things you're grateful for. Not just "my family" but "the way my daughter's eyes crinkle when she laughs" or "the warmth of coffee in my hands on a cold morning." Specificity matters—it trains your brain to notice
goodness throughout your day, naturally reducing stress and anxiety.

3. Nourish With Intention, Not Perfection
The holidays aren't the time for restriction, but they are an opportunity for mindful nourishment. Savor the foods that bring you joy. Take a gentle walk after meals, not for calorie-burning but for digestion and fresh air. Create quiet moments for reflection, prayer, or simply sitting in stillness. These aren't extras to fit in—they're the foundation that makes everything else sustainable.

An Invitation to Rest

As we embrace this season, we encourage you to release the pressure of perfection and instead find moments to rest, reflect, and reconnect—with yourself, your loved ones, and the deeper truths that sustain you.
What if this Christmas, instead of doing more, you simply were more? More present. More grateful. More at peace.

From our family to yours, we wish you a Christmas filled with the kind of rest that restores, the kind of peace that endures, and the kind of joy that heals.

What does rest mean to you this Christmas? What makes it hard to slow down, and what helps? Share your thoughts with us—and if you need support navigating this season, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, please reach out. You don't have to carry it alone.

Merry Christmas and Blessings,
Dr. Macasieb & Wendy
